Altitude Glass was chosen for a large-scale project in a 220-room hotel in the former Echo Newspaper building in Liverpool. The scope of the project was particularly ambitious – our team was tasked with processing and installing over 1200 custom pieces of glass, over 14 floors. These glass partitions needed to be measured, drawn up with Computer Aided Design Technology, cut, toughened and part-sandblasted, delivered, distributed, before finally being installed.
Working closely with the client, we incorporated brushed nickel ironmongery into the design with channel glass-to-glass hinges, handles and towel rails. We began by trialling this glass and ironmongery design in a single room to begin with, ensuring that it met our high standards of safety. When this was a success, we then continued rolling out the rest of the partitions across the rest of the rooms across multiple floors.
With so many pieces of glass and rooms to work with, one of the key logistical challenges was making sure that each individual piece ended up in the correct room, requiring a particularly high level of attention to detail from each of our team.
We worked in a rolling motion, using three teams of two. Each team had a specific task to complete in each room before moving on to the next installation, while the next pair would follow on behind them with their own tasks, until the glass partitions in each room were successfully assembled, installed, and cleaned. Using this process, we completed the entire 1200 panel project in only 8 months.
