Altitude were asked to provide a design solution for a contemporary office space, which was suitable for a variety of roles within the business, people who would be using the office as a full-time base and those who would be hot desking.
Importantly, paperwork was key to their business and as such they required innovative solutions to keep the space uncluttered, clean and tidy. There also had to be plenty of brainstorming areas, with the office space open to enable collaborative working.
We initially divided up the space into the areas set out in SLS’s ‘people and functions’ brief, with people working in teams. We then provided concepts and 3D visuals to show how the office would look both aesthetically and functionally.
Generally, the office areas were to be open with enclosed offices (in glass) for the directors and accounts. A major requirement was the need for a conference room with high sound-dampening specification, as the room needed to be adaptable and multifunctional so it could be changed to suit the specific requirements of each day. Whether it was a large training session or smaller group interactions, this room was an important value to their growth as a company and it was first to be installed.
The moveable walls in the conference room have a 48 dB sound rating when closed and were attached to the concrete slab above, this provided the required sound insulation and subsequently the multifunctionality of the room. Altitude supplied the tables and chairs, all stackable and re-locatable, and selected with the colours on the interior design guidelines.
We then installed glass offices for the directors and account departments with glass dividers for the team ‘pods’ located on the first floor. These divider partitions incorporated writable panels built within the glass for the teams to be able to use them as communication boards rather than have these as a separate whiteboards on the walls. This was all designed to meet the brief of keeping the office clean and tidy.
Branding was integrated onto the glass with the graphic manifestation, and the green and yellow colours of the logo were flowed through into the panels. Predominately, we used the green on the first floor and the yellow on the ground floor.
Banks of bench desks were installed for the team pods and executive desks for the individual offices, all in a contemporary white. We also installed tall storage, and low storage which was dual purpose, providing not only storage but a space on which large format graphics could be laid out in their design dept. for ‘proofing’. These areas were also great for team brainstorming sessions.
The finishing touch was to renovate one of the kitchens and provide a new break-out kitchen on the ground floor for their growing team. This is a major asset to thie business providing a great space for group interactions and for office events.
