We were delighted to manufacture and supply a collection of bespoke Églomisé mirrors for the new AKI restaurant on Cavendish Square, London — a project that brought together traditional gilding techniques, large-scale mirrorwork and luxury interior design.
For this prestigious restaurant project, we produced two distinct mirror finishes, each carefully selected to complement different areas of the interior.
A major element of the project was a collection of 14 large-scale Églomisé mirrors, handcrafted using 22.5ct champagne gold leaf.
The warm champagne tone of the gold creates a sophisticated, understated luxury. Rather than the brighter appearance of traditional yellow gold, champagne gold has a softer, warmer character that works beautifully within contemporary hospitality interiors.
Each mirror was individually handcrafted, with the gold leaf applied to the rear face of the glass to create the distinctive depth and luminosity associated with Églomisé work.
Working on large-scale panels requires a high level of precision and patience. The finish needs to remain consistent across each individual mirror while maintaining the subtle character that comes from genuine hand-applied leaf.
The result is a collection of statement mirrors that adds warmth, texture and a sense of craftsmanship to the restaurant interior.
For the ground floor of AKI, we created a contrasting collection of antiqued silver mirrors, designed specifically for use around columns and feature walls.
The antiqued silver finish gives the glass a beautifully aged character, allowing the mirrors to feel established and architectural rather than simply reflective.
Used across the columns and feature areas, the mirrors help to enhance the surrounding interior while creating additional depth and reflection throughout the space.
The combination of the antiqued silver and the champagne gold Églomisé creates two very different finishes, while still working cohesively within the overall design of the restaurant.
Projects such as AKI demonstrate the possibilities of bespoke mirror beyond a traditional wall mirror.
Églomisé and antiqued mirror can be used to create feature walls, architectural panels, columns, furniture elements and decorative installations, giving interior designers and architects the opportunity to introduce something genuinely individual into a scheme.
Because each piece is made to order, finishes, dimensions and detailing can be developed around the requirements of the project.
For AKI, this meant producing a substantial collection of large-format mirrors in two specialist finishes and coordinating their delivery directly to London in preparation for the restaurant’s grand opening.
Every piece was produced by us and carefully prepared for delivery to London, ready for installation as part of the completed restaurant interior.
From the first application of the gold leaf to the final finished mirror, the project represents the combination of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary interior design that lies at the heart of our bespoke Églomisé work.
